St Columba and "Nessie"

From Iona, Saint Columba and his monks fanned out initially over the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and in later times further afield down into England. He was fearless and, a bit like Saint Paul, was not slow to use his recognised royal status to advance the cause of Christ, visiting King Brude at his court in Inverness.

One other encounter he had is regarded as the first sighting of the Loch Ness Monster when a “water beast” attacked one of his disciples in the year 565.He banished it to the River Ness, and the rest is, well, history.
