Through the pioneering work of the early missionaries, many in our land turned to Christ Our Lord. People would want to know how they were to continue being faithful to Him, and so the early missionaries would prepare them for Baptism, introduce them to the Mass and the Sacraments, the practice of daily prayer and the reading/hearing of the Sacred Scriptures as foundations of Christian Life to help them imitate Christ in their day-to-day behaviour and especially their treatment of others. In this way, stage by stage, not without many failures and never perfect, our country became civilised through the teachings of Christ and our laws were based on His. True civilisation cannot be based on anything else, and that is one reason why we must stand up for Christ’s Law because remaining a civilised society depends on it.
